Transworld Skateboarding June 2007 Active AD

by Mark Spider - April 10th, 2007
Transworld Skateboarding June 2007 Active AD

I just got the June issue of Transworld Skateboarding at my desk today. On page 29 there is an interesting advertisement from none other than your friends here at Active. As you can see, it is a very cool ad that features a lot of our team members in a collage of other ads we ran throughout the last year or so. Cruise into your nearest Active location to get yourself a copy today.

You may also notice the text at the top of the ad. It reads, “THE BEST TEAM IN SKATEBOARDING IS ABOUT TO GET BETTER…”

Any guesses?

Paul Rodriguez - A Movie Life

by Erica Yary - March 22nd, 2007

Paul Rodriguez

Paul Rodriguez dropped in yesterday for a quick chat, and we made sure to get the latest scoop on the skateboarding superstar’s life as of late. The biggest news Paul had for us was that he just finished shooting a movie with Rob Dyrdek. The movie has numerous cameos by a bunch of different skateboarders you know and love, notably Terry Kennedy and Jim Greco. The movie is called “Street Dreams,” and is a full length feature film. Paul said that he was unsure if it was going to make it to theaters, but there’s a good chance it will. In the movie Paul plays the part of a small town skateboarder from Chicago named Derek Cabrera. In the movie, Derek has to overcome a bunch of obstacles in his life to attain his goal of becoming a professional skateboarder. Paul was explaining that the movie is a real testament to skateboarders and their struggle, it’s not a sugar coated Disney kind of flick that skateboarders can’t relate to. (more…)

Suffer the Joy - The Madhouse Premiere

by Erica Yary - November 13th, 2006

The Suffer the Joy Video premiere had over a thousand skaters fromall over the place united and migrated onto the streets of Long Beach for an evening that turned sour. The night started off seemingly fine, soon thereafter the first showing of the video was over and the tenants inside were exiting as all of the 1,000 people outside were trying to get in, including me and everyone else that had stuffed their body into a 10 foot wide walkway in hopes that they may get an eyeball by Ed Templeton or one of the people who warranted entry to those in line. Seeing a couple people I know making a mosh like motion towards the front of the line was the breaker and from there it was on. I got the gracious okay from Ed himself and entered the facility. Watching the video full of some of Active's finest was great. Johnny Layton, Matt Bennett and Billy Marks did not disappoint. Suffer the Joy meets and exceeds all expectations. The first thing on your Christmas list this year is the new Toy Machine Video 'Suffer the Joy'. To end the story of the premiere, by the time the second showing was over the front door to the theatre was torn off. There were around 200 riot police and kids had been arrested and detained throughout the second showing. Broken glass and unhappy faces covered the streets all in the name of skateboarding.

Thanks to Jeremy Adams for letting me use his photos!

Tony Tave Going Pro Party

by Erica Yary - November 13th, 2006

Tony Tave is the best and to celebrate the best, Element and Active threw him a “Going Pro Party” at the Camp in Costa Mesa. Tony had cake, champagne, and balloons to commemorate the fact that he has become a professional in the skateboarding world. We at Active love Tony and if you see his board for sale, we suggest you pick up a Tony Tave Element board, because it’s all about supporting good people who are extra talented! Keep your eyes peeled for lots of footage and coverage of our main man Tony Tave.
