The Lakai team came out in full effect on Saturday to Active Temecula! Despite the 100 degree heat, hundreds off kids lined up for hours to meet the crew. The Lakai line up consisted of Marc Johnson, Guy Mariano, Mike Carroll, Rick Howard, Vincent Alvarez, Eric Koston and Mike Mo Capaldi, pretty impressive I must say! Thanks again to the entire Lakai crew for coming out and supporting us with this event!

The Deathwish Team came out to Active Burbank this past Friday night and signed autographs for hundreds of people who came out to the store. Brian ‘Slash’ Hansen, Erik Ellington, Albert Madrid, and Jim Greco came and signed for a few hours and gave away a ton of free stuff to the hardcore Deathwish fans who showed up. Thanks to the Deathwish Team for coming out to the store and making this happen!

The ASR Tradeshow was this past weekend and Active was on top of our game. On Thursday morning Active had a team in the first annual ASR soccer tournament and took third place. Team Quiksilver took first place in the tournament. Shortly after the tournament Active had a grand opening event for our new store in Downtown San Diego located next door to Petco Park. Tons of people showed up for that. From there, Active held down part of the guest list for an exclusive W Hotel party and the likes of Mike Vallely, Eric Koston, Steve Berra, Braydon Szafranski, Jake Brown, Ryan Sheckler, Terry Kennedy and more were there with Active’s crew. On Saturday, Active was also part of Automatic Magazine’s Battle of the Shops in which we took 3rd place in. Active’s Battle of the Shops team was: Theotis Beasley - Tech Section, Justin Figueroa - Rail, John Dickson - Double Set and David Loy - Tranny. Congratulations to the Active team for getting third place and taking home $1,000!

For the re-location of Chino Active, Paul Rodriguez was nice enough to come out and sign autographs for over four hours in the Chino heat. This was probably the biggest turnout for a signing we have ever had for one person. P Rod has a lot of love out in Chino and if you came out to the signing thank you and we appreciate it!

Check out some photos from the RVCA Team Signing we had this past Saturday at Norco Active. Ed Templeton, Josh Harmony, Raymond Molinar, Austin Stephens, Leo Romero, and Kevin Spanky Long were all there signing for their loyal fans. Jimmy the RVCA Team Manager Man of the Year 2008 was there snapping photos and so was your favorite skateboarding mastermind Ed Templeton. Paul Rodriguez came out to Active Valencia yesterday for a three hour signing. People lined up and patiently waited for their P Rod photos and autographs. Fallen footwear premiered Ride the Sky last Thursday night and the consensus seems to be that everyone’s expectations for the video were met and exceeded. There was a ton of amazing skateboarding and the stars of the video were: Chris Cole, Jamie Thomas, Josh Harmony, Gilbert Crockett, Tommy Sandoval, Tony Cervantes, Matt Bennett, and James Hardy. Also in the video were Active riders Billy Marks and Brian Hansen who both had amazing parts. Make sure you check back with us to see when we will premiering the video around you!

TOMS Shoes, Element skateboards and Active all teamed up to bring Orange County an art show and benefit this past Sunday, August 3rd. Mike Crum, The Growlers, and Ray Barbee all performed live sets at the event and there was artwork displayed all around theCAMP in Costa Mesa. Aside from the bands, the huge mural being painted, free shaved ice, free BBQ going on, etc, we had a promotion where if you bought a pair of TOMS shoes you could get them personalized by numerous artists. Artists such as Don Pendleton, Todd Francis, Mike Kershner and many more came out to the event and painted TOMS shoes for lucky customers. Check out the photos and thanks to everyone who came out to the event and made it possible and to all the sponsors who were involved that made the day a huge success!

This past Monday, July 28th, Active, Red Bull and Tadpole Marketing got together to host the Sheckler Style Lounge at Active El Segundo. The Sheckler Style Lounge was where Ryan Sheckler fans were treated to Chipotle, drinks, entertainment, free stuff, and the fans got to have an up close and personal Q & A with Ryan Sheckler himself. After they had the Q & A with Ryan, the fans got to get autographs and photos with their favorite cast member of The Life of Ryan. Mtv and Fuel TV were both present to cover the event along with Transworld and Skateboard.com. As soon as they have the stuff posted online we will let you know. Active Pro Team Rider Paul Rodriguez took home 1st place and a check for $100,000 thanks to his amazing skateboarding at the first ever Maloof Money Cup in Costa Mesa, CA. The event was massive and the skateboarding was of the highest caliber. The top honors could have gone to any of the top three skaters, but this is how the top skaters placed:

PRO STREET FINALS

1. Paul Rodriguez took 1st and won $100,000 and a Nixon watch worth $10K!!!

2. Nyjah Huston grabbed 2nd $40,000
3. Chris Cole 3rd $25,000
4. Ryan Sheckler 4th $15,000
5. Darrell Stanton $6,250

The Second Annual Eric Koston Invitational Golf Tournament happened this past Tuesday, July 8th at Sierra LakesGolf Course in Fontana, CA. The event had a ton f special guests such as; Eric Koston, John Cardiel, Scott Johnston, Rick Howard, Mike Carroll, Tim Gavin, Frank Gerwer, Adrian Lopez, Rob Welsh, Guy Mariano, Ryan Bobier, and more. The guys played the 18 holes to raise money to benefit the charity of Eric Koston’s choice, the Ojai Skatepark. Everyone from Ogio to Dwindle came out to the tournament and played for the cause. The team with the best score of the day was TheSkateboardMag’s Team featuring, none other than, Eric Koston. Thanks to everyone who helped make this tournament a success for the second year in a row.

Last Sunday July 8th, the Girl skateboards and Chocolate skateboards Teams came out to three Active’s in one day to do signings. The first stop of the day was Brea Active, the second was San Dimas Active and the third and final stop was Rancho Cucamonga Active. Hundreds of Girl and Chocolate fans came out to the stops throughout the day to meet Eric Koston, Guy Mariano, Devine Calloway, Daniel Castillo, Mike Carroll, Rick Howard, Kenny Anderson, Justin Eldridge, Chris Roberts, Mike Mo Capaldi, Vincent Alvarez, Jeron Wilson and Marc Johnson. The guys were giving out free boards and product to people all day and by the end of the hours and hours of signings the guys headed back to their homes. Thanks to everyone involved in the signing, the stores for promoting, Corey and Luke for setting up and breaking down and to the Girl and Chocolate skateboards Camp for making this happen for us!

The Grand Finale was almost cut short when we showed up to Fontana Skatepark and realized that taking the proper precautions, by getting a permit to hold an event, means that cops decide to poach on the event. The skatepark had at least 2 or more cops present at all times which means that there was no skateboarding without helmets. Luckily an Active employee brought 15 helments from our headquarters and saved the day. We let the guys who wanted to throw down have a helmet so that the show could go on! Neurotoxin was once again rocking out and the crowd was not let down by the hot dogs, rock and roll, and free stuff! Thanks to Alphanumeric for showing up, all of this years sponsors and everyone who stuck around at Fontana for the event. See you next year!
