Simi Valley has an amazing skateboard landmark. The Skate Lab! Every skate vagabond needs to make a pilgrimage there to enrich their knowledge of skateboarding. It’s not only an amazing skate park wonderland, it also holds a nice skateboard museum. We’re talking old decks, mag covers, poster, etc. Go see? it for? yourselves. http://skatelab.com/Teaming up w/ the Skate Lab Active played host to a few best trick contest. Winners received a healthy box of promo from Active. Frijoles Blancos was in the house slapin’ on tattoos and causing a ruckus (the guy’s a dummy!). Big thanks to Todd and the entire Skatelab crew for putting us on and Fallen for supplying the free hoodies for the kiddies. Peep the video and enjoy highlights from our winners Val, Che, and Patrick!!

The homies @ Hurley opened the doors to their recently built team park to all Active riders and employees. The park is gnarley! All the trannies are set with pool coping and the ledges with cement action. Check out the colorful artwork by Kris Markovich on the parks walls while the likes of Josh Borden and Theotis Beasley get down on it! Honorable mention goes to Anthony Pshebelski for laying down some great maneuvers dude! Big thanks to Astorga and Mangan for setting things up.

Really pumped on this park! The Hessians rolled through the park last summer and experience the spray paint- street surfers first hand. The locals always keep the energy high and the steelo even higher. We couldn’t hold off until summer to go back. Throwing down a best trick contest was the best way to get our fix. Check out the vid and watch how the boys crank it up on the three block! Long Beach!

Active Snow Sponsor Me Contest 2008

?Sponsor Me? what a concept, in day and age where getting noticed is as difficult as finding a parking spot during Christmas time, Active, Rome, Vans, and Von Zipper simply made it easier by bringing the spot light to Mt. High so kids can show their skills for a shot at a 1 year sponsorship from the these respectable companies. This is the 7th Annual Sponsor Me Contest and by far the best one. The course showcased several different jibs as well as the addition of a 40ft jump this year. The riding was better than we could have ever imagined, not to mention the winner had no sponsors what so ever. We are stoked to be hooking him up for this next year! Big thanks to Rome, Vans, Von Zipper, Vestal, Skull Candy, Mt High, Boost Mobil and Vans for all the support on another great year! (more…)

Ramiro “Furby” Salcedo on Kr3w

by Mark Spider - March 19th, 2008

Ramiro ?Furby? Salcedo

KR3W announces Ramiro “Furby” Salcedo as their newest team member.

If you grew up skating a park that the locals proudly call ?The Dirty?, you grew up in South Central Los Angeles?the city of Hawthorne to be exact. And if you skated non-stop and watched videos of Tom Penny everyday, then maybe, just maybe, you might end up with some pop like Ramiro ?Furby? Salcedo. Seriously, Furbz has been paying dues and killing spots long enough that people have really started to take notice of his smooth style and proper flicks. I mean, how can you not notice a nollie back heel down Carlsbad gap or a nollie flip down that Burbank seven-flat-two? In the words of Antwuan Dixon, ?You tight man, you know it, welcome to the team.?

Check out Ramiro Salcedo’s profile page and video on KR3W’s site.?

Thanks to Hurley, Escondido and Mission Valley Actives for making these events a success.

Element Eden Advocate Brooke Reidt

by Mark Spider - March 14th, 2008

Los Angeles based artist Brooke Reidt helped define the Element Eden Advocate program in 2005 and her work is featured on many of the pieces in the current Element collection. Her style is always changing as she continues to grow and learn from every new experience and she incorporates all of her surroundings into each piece of art she creates.

While attending the prestigious Pasadena Art Center College of Design, Brooke also finds time to be a part of shows across the country and spends a lot of her energies finding ways to give back to her community in creative ways. In fact, if you purchase one of her pieces or attend one of her shows, you may be inadvertently giving back yourself.

TOMS Shoes ‘Give’ Event

by Erica Yary - March 12th, 2008

Toms shoes, probably the best business concept of the double O! You buy a pair of these super chill ninja sneakers and some child in a third world country gets a pair too. Everybody wins! That being said it was only logical for Active to team up with the crew to host a killer fundraiser event for all to enjoy the Toms love. With Red Bull jumping on board in a big way, the date was set for February 24th, the location Active Westwood, and the event was dubbed ?Give?.

Molinar, Ramones, & Rojo - Imprisoned

by Erica Yary - March 10th, 2008

Rojo and Molinar Pre Hard Time

?S Footwear and Habitat rider, Raymond Molinar, was kind enough to answer a short questioner about his jail stay for Active

Active: Word around the campfire recently is that you, Dyson and Jose had a brush with the law that landed you both in jail. When, how, and why did this happen?

Raymond: Yeah… it was about two weeks ago when Jose Rojo, Dyson Ramones and I were thrown in the slammer in Austin Texas for skateboarding on private property…we could have avoided the whole situation, but we just kept on skating.

Active: Why did they keep you in jail for so long for skateboarding?

Raymond: We would have gotten out sooner, but Dave Hoang lost his credit card and couldn’t get money out in time to bail us out. So we had to wait til the next day for Dave to get the money to bail us out.
